Making the interwebs do cool things since 2001

Welcome to the weird world of Greg Sabia. I am a modern Web Developer and Applications Engineer based in San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area. My intelligence, quirkyness, nerdiness, creativeness and jedi knight abilities combine to make one hell of a developer. I am the conspirator of several web-based projects, see them here.

Playing For Change: Bob Marley's War/No More Trouble

I am finding myself on this website on a daily basis. I need to order the DVD already.

As we made our way around the world we encountered love, hate, rich and poor, black and white, and many different religious groups and ideologies. It became very clear that as a human race we need to transcend from the darkness to the light and music is our weapon of the future. This song around the world features musicians who have seen and overcome conflict and hatred with love and perseverance. “We don’t need more trouble, what we need is love”. The spirit of Bob Marley always lives on.

New Find: Scotty Don't

This is a band that I found a little while ago called Scotty Don't. I first noticed them in the Ska/Reggae scene opening for Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime, but then I realized that they are the same band!

Anyways, here's a little taste of their music. This song is called "And With It, Rain" and I think it's pretty awesome.

RE: Manny Ramirez

Wow, talk about Manny being Manny. He was just suspended for 50 games for using PEDs.

Dodger fans are among the least knowledgeable and most stuck-up in baseball. Every time I go to a game at Dodger Stadium, I cringe a little bit. Especially when I have to listen to the inane mumbles of the fans at the stadium. Not to mention the un-creative chants — "Giants Suck! Giants Suck!" — even though the Giants just scored three runs. It sickens me.

So now the only player's name that most Dodger fans can remember is gone for the next 50 games. I predict that the Dodgers will lose 60% of the next 50 games. Suck it Dodger fans!

Playing For Change: Peace Through Music

I recently discovered this website, and It really took my by surprise.

Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. No matter whether people come from different geographic, political, economic, spiritual or ideological backgrounds, music has the universal power to transcend and unite us as one human race. And with this truth firmly fixed in our minds, we set out to share it with the world.

This one is epic. It bridges the physical distance between the many musicians and cultures of this planet.
Stand By Me:

This Song Around The World is a folk tune from Chennai, India. We started the track in New Orleans and added musicians from the across the globe before finally delivering it the people of it’s origin. We ended up in Chennai recording and filming the vocals from the Oneness Choir. The track has a feeling of perseverance and joy and features vocalists from four continents.
I'd also like to add that I'm totally in love with Tal Ben Ari "Tula"!

This one is epic – Turn your speakers up loud!

Wouldn't this song be great for the ending credits in a superhero movie? Or is it just me?

The final days of the M3

Over the past few years, I have been privileged of owning some of the most respected cars out there. About a week ago I decided to sell my BMW M3. This, my third M3, was my favorite. Sadly, this will likely be the last M3 I own until I can buy a house and store it in a garage.

I plan on selling it within the next few days. Here are the last few photos of my M3...

Given the 85° San Diego winter, this song is quite fitting:

A few Emerald Bowl post-game thoughts while reflecting in today's victory over the University of Miami Hurricanes in the Emerald Bowl...

Although Longshore didn't have the best four years, and won't go down in history as Cal's best QB. I definitely don't think he should have been booed. Many Cal fans, unfortunately, did not know that Riley was injured and thus the chants for Riley to come in were mostly due to ignorance but still... it sucks for Longshore.  I feel bad for the guy.

Somehow I feel like Cal finished the season the same way they started it - with uncertainty in the spotlight. Overall, Longshore's ten-year with Cal was average at best. But when you look around the corner, Tedford will be setting up Riley and freshman Brock Mansion. Not to mention, Javid Best.

It is being neither inaccurate nor unkind to suggest that Best was the only consistently productive component to Cal's offense Saturday night. He gained an Emerald Bowl record 186 yards on 20 carries, and it's safe to say the threat he represented was a factor in the 152 yards Cal gained on its 31 Jahvid-free plays.

The future? Well, with Tedford at the helm, who knows. National Championship? I can't wait the grueling nine months until next season!

Join me on Blog Action Day to end Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day, thousands of bloggers will unite to discuss a single issue - Poverty. Blog action Day is a non profit, grassroots movement of thousands of individual bloggers coming together for one cause - End Poverty.

Blog Action Day originally began when a 27 year old Canadian student at Notre Dame University named Shawn got inspired by a speech given by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs (author of the book “The End Of Poverty”).

That speech inspired him to withdraw from grad school, liquidate his savings and begin his journey to try and make the world a better place - one meaningful difference at a time.

Shawn’s is just one example of the myriad ways for one person to make a difference. It just took one young college kid to make this into a worldwide movement.

Jack Nicholson was pushing for hydrogen cars in the 70s

For those of you who think that the BMW Hydrogen 7 is a new idea, someone has dredged up a video of a similar car from 1978 being showed off by Jack Nicholson.

The "news" report seems laughable now, but it's a good lesson for a world that seems to think "breakthroughs" happen every day. Feeding hydrogen into an internal combustion engine is and old idea and, it turned out, a bad idea. And while almost all car companies (aside from BMW) are focusing on much more efficient hydrogen fuel cell cars, decades of development still haven't brought us a mass-market car.

We're closer than ever, of course, with the Honda FXC Clarity and the Hydrogen Chevy Equinox both on the road in California. But Hydrogen cars might need decades of development before they can operate coast to coast. And, by that time, I hope we've come up with another, better solution.
